Botany Spotlight: Grasses and Sedges

Tuesday, August 27, 2019 - 9:00 AM

Running Time: 3 hours

Grasses belong to one of the largest plant families, with more than 10,000 species accounting for about 24 percent of the earth’s vegetation. Grasses do not have the showy flowers many traditional garden plants offer, but grasses, sedges and rushes have their own value and beauty. They require a little more effort to identify than plants with conventional flowers: Their tiny details often require a magnifying lens. In this one-day lab class we use microscopes to examine details closely and sketch them in pencil. Instruction and examples will help you analyze the structures. When you understand better, you’ll draw better.

Prerequisite: Botany for the Botanical Illustrator.

Fee: $60 member, $95 non-member.

Date(s): Tue, Aug. 27, 9 a.m. – noon.
