Denver Botanic Gardens dares you to join us after dark! At our annual Ghosts in the Gardens Tours, our guides will lead you through one of four separate ghost tours. Each tour guide will tell haunting stories of the Gardens' one hundred years of history and illustrate points of interest inside and outside what used to be called The Boneyard. Each tour will be unique and subjects will include actual staff ghost stories, real overnight security staff ghost encounters, and intriguing history (including access to the Waring House Mansion that is not open to the public). So conjure your courage and capture your fear as you walk our dark paths after hours and dare the night, here at Denver Botanic Gardens' Ghosts in the Gardens Tours.

Girl Scout Exploration Day - Household Elf

Be a green Girl Scout! Learn about ways to save energy, explore water-smart garden plants, create reusable items, and plant an air-purifying house plant to take home with you. This program is designed for Brownie level Girl Scouts.

Scout Exploration Days offer scout troops the opportunity to explore plant-based themes through a variety of hands-on activities and take-home projects. Each Exploration Day offers several activity stations set up throughout the Gardens for groups to explore. Pack a picnic lunch and make a day of it!

Price: $12 per scout (includes admission to the Gardens). One adult (troop leader or parent) for every five scouts is admitted free of charge. Additional adults and non-participating siblings pay $7. Non participating siblings do not participate in the take home activities. If siblings want to participate please purchase a scout ticket.

Special Instructions: To accommodate a larger number of scouts and improve your group's experience we are offering 2 admission times. Activity stations will be available to your group from the admission time you choose until 2:00pm.

Activity stations will be located outdoors. On colder days or days with inclement weather programs will utilize the indoor spaces of the Gardens. We recommend the scouts dress in layers and bring a hat, water bottle and sunscreen with them. You will receive an email with check in information a few days before your scheduled visit.

Scout Exploration Day Refund Policy: Cancellations more than one week prior to the scheduled program are subject to a 15% cancellation fee. Cancellations with less than one week’s notice are non-refundable.

Invitation to Ikebana: Modern

Ikebana is an expression of respect and appreciation towards nature. We observe life through the arrangement of plants. During each class, participants get hands-on instruction to put together an arrangement to take home.

Moribana-style Ikebana was developed in the late 19th century in Japan and became very popular because of its flexibility without losing natural atmosphere. During each class, participants will get hands-on instruction to put together an arrangement to take home.

If a participant has enough experience on Moribana, she /he could go forward to Nageire arrangement during class.

Instructor: Akiko Buckmaster, born in Japan, is a master teacher of Ohara Ikebana School. She has been teaching Ikebana in the Denver area for forty years.

Price: $44, $39 member

Special Instructions:

Students are encouraged to bring their own Ikebana container (vase) and a large Kenzan (Pin-frog, 3.5" diameter or larger) as well as garden clippers (or Ikebana scissors) so that they can take home their finished arrangement. The Kenzan and Ikebana vase can be reused for future arrangements again and again for years. Container, Kenzan, and scissors will be lent during the class for those who don't bring their own.

Plains Conservation Center Wagon Tour

Get to know the prairie in a whole new way. On our ride across the plains, participants watch for wildlife in the landscape, from prairie dogs to pronghorn antelope and birds of prey, beneath the great stretching sky while learning about the short grass prairie ecosystem along the way. With stops at the sod homes and Cheyenne camp, your group will experience what it was like to be a homesteader and a Cheyenne Indian living on the prairie in the 1800's. Take a guided tour of the sod homestead and see the sod homes, schoolhouse and blacksmith shop. Then visit the Cheyenne camp to learn about how the Cheyenne lived on the prairie and followed the bison as a seminomadic tribe.
