A Guided Walk - Forest Bathing

Experience the relaxing practice of forest bathing (shinrin-yoku). Bathe in the atmosphere of the forest through mindful engagement of the senses. Studies suggest that a regular practice of forest bathing may be associated with a reduction in blood pressure, heart rate and stress hormones. You will move slowly and mindfully through the forest as you are guided through a series of invitations to engage your senses for closer connection with the surrounding nature. The walk begins at 9 a.m. and lasts 2.5 hours. All summer walk locations will be near the foothills, within about a one hour drive or less from Denver. Detailed information about location will be emailed out about a week before the walk. Fall programs are held at Chatfield Farms.

Leona is a professional photographer and owner of Wind in Pines LLC, which provides public and private forest bathing walks in the greater Denver area. Leona is a certified forest therapy guide, through the Association of Nature and Forest Therapy (ANFT).

 

Special Instructions: All walks begin at 9 a.m. and will last 2.5 hours. This is not a hike. Participants will move slowly and mindfully, covering about 1/2 mile over the course of the walk. Detailed information about location will be emailed out about a week before the walk.

Bilingual Yoga

 

Cultivate presence through breath-linking movements in this vinyasa yoga class cued in both English and Spanish. Cues will be the same in both languages, and those familiar with yoga will find a common language through the traditional Sanskrit names of the poses. This flowing, dynamic class is beneficial for all practitioners, and teaches important foundations while leaving space for more advanced practitioners to play.

It’s mission is to serve as a cultural bridge by bringing diversity and inclusivity to yoga rooms around the world! Noemi has worn some fun hats in this lifetime, among those: legal advocate, former competitive gymnast, environmental activist, professional dance performer, beer judge, and her favorite hat as of late: Multilingual Yoga Instructor! Her signature Bilingual Yoga program has been featured by NBC Universal as an impactful grassroots outreach community offering by introducing this wellness practice to underserved demographics. Cacao Ceremony with Tibetan Singing Bowls and Movement

Drink ceremonial-grade, responsibly sourced cacao from Guatemala and be guided into a ceremonial experience with chocolate! This ceremony will be complimented by Tibetan singing bowls, which have been used for thousands of years to promote healing.

There is a reason that cacao has been used medicinally and spiritually for nearly 3,000 years there is more to this small bean than meets the eye. Native to Central and South America, cacao was used by the Aztecs and Mayans in sacred ceremonies. The cacao tree was one of these ancient peoples' most prized, and chocolate was the drink of choice. Chocolate was used as preventative medicine as well as healing purposes. Historical texts contain an enormous list of medical uses for cacao among them are increased libido, fertility and abetted longevity, as well as improved energy, reduced fever and asthma, heart-opening, and having an overall calming effect. Most cacao that is easily found today has been processed and roasted in such a way that it loses many of its health benefits. Slow down and open your heart; learn about this sacred plant.

 

ALL levels welcome and no experience required.

Please bring a yoga mat, blanket and any props or pillows needed to make yourself comfortable for meditation and a deep relaxation lying on the floor for 45-60 minutes. We recommend wearing comfortable clothing.

Enjoying Nature with Fountain Pens

Using fountain pens is a wonderfully different and relaxing way to write and draw, especially when combined with nature! This course will teach you the basics of using and maintaining a fountain pen. You will also have an opportunity to sample various types of pens, paper and ink to help you decide which you prefer. You’ll even receive a fountain pen and notebook that are yours to keep! Open to all skill levels. Lecture style class with a hands-on portion that allows students to try out different fountain pens, inks and papers.

Kundalini Yoga - Single Session

Kundalini yoga focuses on awakening energy and unlocking our inner potential through breathing techniques, movements, stretching, meditation and mantra. This ancient and sacred practice is the oldest form of yoga and is an effective way to recharge and heal the body.

The class, taught by Yogi Bhajan, Ph.D., Master of Kundalini yoga, starts and ends with beautiful and ancient chants which open and calm the heart. A carefully planned sequence of postures, movements and breathing exercises, called a kriya, follows. The techniques stimulate the nervous and immune systems, while improving strength and flexibility. Participants may find a peace of mind and experience benefits including relief from back pain, stress, addiction, depression, insomnia and weight control.

Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR)

The foundation of Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) is the cultivation of mindfulness – clear, non-judgmental attention to the present moment – with regard to the ongoing experience of body, feelings, emotions, and mind. MBSR studies reveal its power to reduce medical symptoms and psychological stress while enhancing the health and well-being of program participants.

Designed by Jon Kabat-Zinn, Ph.D., MBSR consists of 8 weekly sessions and a one-day silent retreat. Various mindfulness tools are learned and practiced in a group context and continued between class sessions.

 

Price: $400, $350 members, includes $25 for materials.

Instructor: Janet Solyntjes, MA, has taught meditation and body awareness disciplines since 1984. She teaches Mindfulness -Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) in both non-profit and corporate settings internationally and is the co-founder of The Center for Courageous Living. Janet is an Adjunct Professor at Naropa University, a senior teacher for Shambhala International, and leads residential meditation programs at retreat centers in the US and Canada.

May 15, 2019 - September 30, 2019 (8-9am): Enter through the Pinon Gate on the west side of York Street. In the late summer and fall, class will meet in the UMB Bank Amphitheater. When it is chilly, we will meet in the Orangery (front of the greenhouse complex). There will be signs starting from the after-hours entrance on the north side of the main entry that will direct participants.

October 1, 2019 - Dec 31, 2019 (7:30 - 8:30am): Enter through the gate on the east side of York St and yoga will be in the Morrison Center.

Tibetan Singing Bowls Concert

Denver yoga instructor and sound healer Chris Anne Coviello and her husband Jason Coviello will be performing together to bring you this experience. The concert will begin with Jason playing his Hang Drum which is a very rare steel drum that is made by only two people in the world. Some say it sounds like a stringed instrument. Jason's Hang Drum is tuned to the note that vibrationally corresponds to the heart chakra and when he plays the drum, he takes you on a heart-opening journey.

Jason and Chris Anne will then begin playing the singing bowls which are tuned to all the different musical notes that correspond to the different chakras, so they will balance the energy in the body. And since we are made up of mostly water, the vibrational effect will be a full body cellular massage.

Tibetan Singing bowls have been used for thousands of years as instruments of healing. So come relax and close your eyes and drift into an altered state which facilitates the body to heal. Make sure you wear comfy clothes and bring a yoga mat or blanket so that you may lie down and let the bells carry away with them all that no longer serves you. As your chakra's re-align, breathe peace and enter the profound state of physical-mental and emotional well-being. Leave as if you were 10 lbs. lighter, because that is exactly what will happen as the pounds of stress, anxiety and fear melt from your system.

Write Your Story

 

 

Have you ever wanted to write down your life story? Maybe you have a quiet dream of turning journal entries or unwritten memories into a gift you can pass on to your children or grandchildren. Maybe you d love to tell the story of a special friend, a spouse or an influential family member. Each of us has a unique story to tell. The details of our days are the building blocks of great narrative. In this class, we use playful writing activities, coloring and non-competitive group work to help you gently remove any blocks and get your creative juices flowing. We talk about techniques for crafting compelling creative nonfiction and setting realistic writing goals. Leave with tools, support and inspiration to keep writing the stories that matter most. Note: Please bring a journal and pen.

Christine holds a PhD in English Literature, and she teaches writing at the Rocky Mountain College of Art and Design.
