Advanced Photo Editing in Adobe Lightroom - ONLINE

Have you used Adobe Lightroom for basic photo editing but want to get more out of your images? Learn advanced photo editing using one of the most popular and versatile photography programs on the market today, Adobe Lightroom. Gain an understanding of the different develop submodules with a focus on the tone curve, HSL and split toning submodules.

Open to anyone with a good understanding of using Lightroom for basic photo editing. This is a lecture style class with review of images, discussion and a Q&A session.

Instructor: Jeanette Galie Burkle is a commercial and editorial photographer with extensive experience in teaching, lecturing, and consulting. Since 2003, Jeanette has successfully owned and managed Galie Photography, while designing and delivering seminars on a wide range of photography topics. An award winning-photographer, Jeanette combines an engineering background with a strong artistic sense. With the belief that photography is part art and part science, she strives to use her unique background to produce art that is infused with a creative vision and improved by knowledge of the underlying scientific principles of photography. She has worked with many corporate clients including ExxonMobil, George Mason University, American Red Cross, John Marshall Bank, AmeriChoice, Medtronic, Harris Corporation, and Long & Foster Realty. Design your very own floral hat, the perfect topper for your Derby ensemble.The date may have changed, but the show must go on! Learn to attach floral ribbon, special mementos and silk flowers to keep your hat looking flawless well beyond race day.

  • 1 hat, of your choosing - many inexpensive options are available from online retails
  • Large silk flower bloom (at least one)
  • Approximately 3-9 additional smaller silk blooms

Optional: feathers, baubles, sparkly picks, etc.

 

Lisa Weddel AIFD PFCI has been in the floral industry for over 30 years.  She has been active in all areas of the industry from designer, teacher to owner of several businesses. Lisa has a floriculture degree, is an Iowa Master florist, as well as being an accredited member of the American Institute of Floral Designers organization where she currently holds the position of President of the South-Central Chapter.  In addition, Lisa has served on the Board of Trustees of the Professional Floral Communicators International as Chairman.This is an organization under the umbrella of the Society of American Florists.

Past floral accomplishments include designing at the prestigious Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena, CA for over 16 parades as a designer as well as a team leader.  She designed on the floral team for President George W. Bush's 2005 Presidential Inauguration, designed at the 2019 Kentucky Derby and has the same honor this coming May.

 

Laura Tonner has enjoyed working in the floral industry for five years. Her favorite part has been designing for weddings and events, but she has done just about everything in the floral industry. She has experience in retail, deliveries and the day-to-day operations of a small flower shop. All of this has led to her latest endeavor as the co-owner of Designs Inspired by You, the first of its kind floral experience studio.

Laura has a floral certificate from a local design school, won an academic scholarship from FAR (Floral Association of the Rockies) and has attended the Rose Parade as a designer for two years.

Trees and shrubs are one of the greatest property investments and can greatly increase a home’s value. Trees are also expensive, so learn how to determine what species is best for your yard, where and when to plant it plant and how to care for it. Evergreens, deciduous trees and shrubs have varying preferred planting times and care strategies.

This class also shares tips on what to look for when you go to the nursery, how to dig a proper hole to ensure the best root spread in the appropriate amount of time and when and how to prune. Also learn how to properly care for your tree to avoid transplant shock or winter desiccation injury. This class can make homeowners more confident when choosing or planting trees and shrubs or when supervising contractors.

Macro/Close Up Photography for DSLR Shooters

Learn about the technical and aesthetic demands of macro photography with a DSLR camera. See different techniques and equipment in use. After an early morning shoot we'll head to the classroom to look at some images and review the gear in more detail.

Putting Your Rose Garden to Bed

Just about everyone grows a rose bush or two.Congress designated the rose as America s national floral emblem in 1986.The popularity of growing roses began thousands of years ago and continues today.The rose growing series offered by American Rose Society Consulting Rosarians and experts from the Denver Rose Society will cover how to grow healthy, easy care beautiful roses for years to come. The series covers secrets to successful rose growing, no pain pruning, versatile shrub roses, fragrant roses, and winter care. Choose one class or take them all and come away with confident rose growing skills and greater appreciation for the  Queen of Flowers. 

Preparing your roses for winter is the key to growing those fabulous flowers in the spring. Learn why fall and winter care keeps your roses healthy from year to year and how to prepare new rose beds for spring planting. Get tips on early transplanting or rearranging the rose bed. A recommended list of roses that do well along the Front Range and higher altitudes will be included to take home.

Supply List:

  • One unique vase of your choice. Think outside the box - a cowboy boot, water pitcher, bucket, basket, birdhouse, etc.
  • A few pliable branches from a bush or tree (roughly 1-2 ft long) - remove all the leaves OR a block of floral foam (available at most craft stores)
  • 1 bundle of flowers from the grocer or a variety from your local florist - look for bundles that include roses, Gerbera daisies, daisy poms, alstroemeria and filler flowers
  • About 6-9 stems of greenery - eucalyptus, leatherleaf, salal leaf or other greenery
  • 1-3 Hydrangea
  • Plastic bags or trash bags, in case your container needs to be lined. You could also use other lining options such as an empty plastic tub or container that fits your chosen "vase".
  • 1 set of sharp clippers or scissors
  • A few wire twist ties

Optional:

  • Wire cutters
  • Some type of tall, linear material - similar to curly or pussy willow - adding height and movement to your arrangment.
  • Anything else you find interesting! (butterflies, birds, ribbons, jewels, etc.)
