Guided Homeschool Exploration at Plains Conservation Center: Nature Art

Create nature art at the beautiful Plains Conservation Center through mud painting, yucca braiding, and an explorative wildlife walk.

Audience: Families with children ages 5-12

Program Fee: $8 per child, $6 per member child; $8 per adult, $6 per member adult

Registration Instructions: Pre-registration is required. Program registration will not be available onsite. Due to social distancing and group size restrictions you must register all members of your party ages 3 and up.

The following safety procedures and requirements are in place for attending onsite classes during COVID-19:

All adults and children ages 3 and older are required to wear a mask.

Class sizes are reduced to follow social distancing protocols. Materials used during the program will not be shared between participant groups and will be disinfected between each use.

The program will take place entirely outdoors.

Please practice social distancing  keep at least six feet away from visitors not in your party.

Guided Homeschool Exploration at Plains Conservation Center: Pollinators

Learn about some of the most important animals in the plant world through a flower dissection, scavenger hunt, and other activities.

Audience: Families with children ages 5-12

Program Fee: $8 per child, $6 per member child; $8 per adult, $6 per member adult

Come explore the key stone species of the shortgrass prairie and learn what makes prairie dogs so special to their ecosystem.

Learn what makes reptiles different from other animals and meet some live snakes and turtles.

Homeschool Make and Take: Evergreens Up Close

Explore how winter looks at the Gardens. Take a walk through the trees and learn more about our favorite evergreens. Along with being the perfect homes for wildlife, explore what makes an evergreen special. Finish your exploration by building your own wreath to take home! This program is a self-guided experience.

 

Make and Take programs offer a space for children and their grownups to connect with natural materials and create together. These self-guided and self-paced programs are designed to provide a creative environment that sparks imagination. The Gardens provides the space and supplies. You and your family provide the ideas and creativity!

 

Program Format: This program includes a self-guided exploration of the Gardens’ outdoor spaces followed by the opportunity to use one of our outdoor workspaces to create your wreath. In the event of weather that prohibits the comfortable use of our outdoor spaces, you have the choice of working in our indoor workspace or taking the materials home with you to complete your project.

 

Audience: Materials provided are appropriate for families with children ages 5 and up.

 

Price: $15 per project fee non-members; $12 per project fee members. Each project fee includes one undecorated wreath form and access to a variety of natural and manmade materials to use for decoration.

 

Registration Instructions: The number of project fees should equal the number of people making an individual wreath. You will be asked to provide the number of adults and the number children who will be part of your group during the check out process. The project fee includes admission to the Gardens for your family group.

Homeschool Make and Take: The Art and Science of Pressed Flowers

Put on the boots of a botanist and explore the Gardens as the seasons change. Learn how and why plants are selected for research, build your own plant press to take home and use dried plant specimens to create a work of art. This program is a self-guided experience.

 

Make and Take programs offer a space for children and their grownups to connect with natural materials and create together.
