The Garden through Hokusai's Lens - ONLINE

Hokusai, best known for "Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji," was a prolific, influential printmaker and painter to the Impressionist and Post-impressionists. He edited his compositions like a director in a film, commanding the eye across the surface in order to tell his version of the "story." Using black ink and water, we will study the Gardens' Bill Hosokawa Bonsai Pavilion and Tea Garden to construct vignettes using sumi-e painting techniques on rice paper. Our final project will be a hanging scroll made from one of our ink sketches.

December 17: Virtual Meditative Plant Tour of the Gardens

Take a mindful, virtual walk among plants. As we pause, we engage with the images of plants and use our sense memory to connect with nature: imagine the warmth of the sun on your skin, the sounds of birdsong and hum of insects, and the scents of flowers and earthy bark. There is an abundance of life all around us that we are sometimes too busy to notice.

This is also an opportunity to see what is blooming at the Gardens.

Price: Complimentary, advanced registration required.

Instructors: Catharine McCord

Catharine McCord is a program coordinator at the Gardens for adult education programs and the Therapeutic Horticulture Program. She is also the recipient of the 2020 American Horticultural Society’s Great American Gardeners Award for Horticultural Therapy.

Tibetan Singing Bowls Concert - ONLINE

Join us from the safety and comfort of your home for a Tibetan singing bowls experience. Through this unique opportunity we can virtually join together this holiday season to blanket the Front Range in sound healing.

The concert begins with a Hang Drum, symphonic gong and a Venus gong that are gently played to relax the nervous system. It continues with the singing bowls experience, which includes two sets of bowls tuned to musical notes that correspond to the different chakras of the body to balance our energy. Since we are made up of mostly water, the vibrational effect is like a full body cellular massage.

Tibetan singing bowls have been used for thousands of years as instruments of healing. Relax, close your eyes and drift into an altered state that helps the body to heal. Wear comfy clothes and cuddle up on your couch, bed or use a yoga mat on a soft surface with blankets so that you may lie down and let the bells carry away all that no longer serves you. As the chakras re-align, breathe in peace and enter a profound state of physical, mental and emotional well-being. Feel as if you are 10 pounds lighter as stress, anxiety and fear melt from your system.

Chris Anne and Jason Coviello, yoga instructors and sound healers, have performed large group Tibetan bowls concerts at Denver Botanic Gardens since 2009.

This session will be streamed online through Vimeo. Details on how to join the class will be emailed the day of the program. You do not need a Vimeo account in order to watch the livestream. Simply click on the link and you will be ready to watch!
