Family Fun Night: Pollination Party

Celebrate the importance of pollinators as you play games, observe pollinators in their natural habitat and plant a pollinator seed mix to take home. Special guest storyteller Cliff Davidson will join us and share family friendly stories.

 

Family Fun Nights are a unique opportunity to explore the Children's Garden after-hours. Families are encouraged to bring a picnic dinner to enjoy in the Children's Garden.

 

Price: $10 nonmember child, $8 member child; $10 nonmember adult, $8 member adult. Children 2 and under are free. Preregistration is required.

 

Special Instructions: Entrance to Family Fun Night is through the Morrison Gate located at 11th Ave. and York St. Gate will open at 5:30 p.m.

Family Fun Night: Stories and S'mores

Say goodbye to spring and celebrate the start of summer! Make s’mores, play games and explore Mordecai Children’s Garden as a family. Special guest storyteller Cliff Davidson will join us and share family friendly stories.

Family Make and Take: Build a Fairy Garden

Join us as we create miniature lands for our mystical garden friends. Discover which plants fairies fancy as you design, plant and landscape a tiny fairy oasis. Materials provided are appropriate for families with children ages 5 and up. Preregistration is required.

 

Family Make and Take programs offer a space for children and their grownups to connect with natural materials and create together. These self-guided and self-paced programs are designed to provide a creative environment that sparks imagination. The Gardens provides the space and supplies. You and your family provide the ideas and creativity!

 

Price: $15 per project fee non-members; $12 per project fee members. Each project fee includes one garden container, plant and access to a variety of natural and manmade materials to use for decoration.

Family Workshop at Plains Conservation Center: Birds of a Feather

Come out to the Plains Conservation Center and learn about the birds that frequent the prairie and then complete a bird project together.

Workshops include a guided exploration of the topic and a hands on project for adults and children to create together. This workshop is designed for families with children ages 4-10.

Learn how homesteading families cooked on a wood burning stove and bake biscuits and make butter together in our sod house.

Explore the plants growing in the Home Harvest Garden and discover how to make tasty and fun snacks that can fit in a lunchbox. We will chop and dice our way through recipes to taste and plant a seedling to take home for your own creations.

 

Workshops offer families a hands-on opportunity to learn about the science and enchantment behind the plants in our everyday lives, create tasty treats from scratch and explore the natural world. Classes are designed for families with children ages 6-10.

What is called by three letters, but actually has a very long name, is in all of us, but is never the same? That's right, DNA! Delve into the world of botany as we study some interesting plant DNA and even perform our very own extraction!

Each session provides learners with the opportunity for hands on investigations experiments and more.

Don't be basic! Learn how you can use your senses to unlock the secrets of pH. We will perform science experiments with everyday kitchen and food items and even complete a taste test that will really make you pucker!

From the rolling prairies in the east to the sagebrush in the west, Colorado is home to plants and animals that have adapted to live in many different environments and ecosystems. But what makes up an ecosystem? Join us as we learn how Ecologists use ecosystems to understand the connections between plants, animals, and the physical world.

What's the buzz? Fly, jump, or crawl on into our Science Studio to learn more about Entomology! We will take a closer look at the patterns and colors of our favorite six legged friends to find out whether they blend in or really stand out!

Ethnobotanists help us to understand how peoples from all over the world use plants to create necessities such as food, clothing, and shelter. Summer Low Sensory Evenings

Experience Denver Botanic Gardens without the crowds.

The Mordecai Children's Garden will stay open later on select evenings for those who wish to connect with plants in a safe, restful location.

This therapeutic horticulture program is intended to give individuals and families who prefer a quiet, less crowded environment a chance to experience the Gardens with limited attendance. During low sensory evenings you are invited to explore on your own or participate in sensory exploration activites and learn more about other HT and Sensory based programming the Gardens offers that will inspire curiosity and awaken your senses like our Sensory Processing and Autism Resource Kits.
