Family Fun Night: Pollination Party

Celebrate the importance of pollinators as you play games, observe pollinators in their natural habitat and plant a pollinator seed mix to take home. Special guest storyteller Cliff Davidson will join us and share family friendly stories.

 

Family Fun Nights are a unique opportunity to explore the Children's Garden after-hours. Families are encouraged to bring a picnic dinner to enjoy in the Children's Garden.

 

Price: $10 nonmember child, $8 member child; $10 nonmember adult, $8 member adult. Children 2 and under are free. Preregistration is required.

 

Special Instructions: Entrance to Family Fun Night is through the Morrison Gate located at 11th Ave. and York St. Gate will open at 5:30 p.m.

Family Make and Take: Build a Fairy Garden

Join us as we create miniature lands for our mystical garden friends. Discover which plants fairies fancy as you design, plant and landscape a tiny fairy oasis. Materials provided are appropriate for families with children ages 5 and up. Preregistration is required.

 

Family Make and Take programs offer a space for children and their grownups to connect with natural materials and create together. These self-guided and self-paced programs are designed to provide a creative environment that sparks imagination. The Gardens provides the space and supplies. You and your family provide the ideas and creativity!

 

Price: $15 per project fee non-members; $12 per project fee members. Each project fee includes one garden container, plant and access to a variety of natural and manmade materials to use for decoration.

Family Workshop at Plains Conservation Center: Birds of a Feather

Come out to the Plains Conservation Center and learn about the birds that frequent the prairie and then complete a bird project together.

Family Workshops at Plains Conservation Center offer families a fun, hands-on guided opportunity to learn about the prairie and the people, plants and animals that live or have lived on the prairie. Workshops include a guided exploration of the topic and a hands on project for adults and children to create together. This workshop is designed for families with children ages 4-10.

Price:  $12 per person

Family Workshop at Plains Conservation Center: Biscuits and Butter in the Homestead

Learn how homesteading families cooked on a wood burning stove and bake biscuits and make butter together in our sod house.

Family Workshops at Plains Conservation Center offer families a fun, hands-on guided opportunity to learn about the prairie and the people, plants and animals that live or have lived on the prairie. Workshops include a guided exploration of the topic and a hands on project for adults and children to create together. This workshop is designed for families with children ages 4-10.

Family Workshop: Garden Grub

Explore the plants growing in the Home Harvest Garden and discover how to make tasty and fun snacks that can fit in a lunchbox. We will chop and dice our way through recipes to taste and plant a seedling to take home for your own creations.

 

Workshops offer families a hands-on opportunity to learn about the science and enchantment behind the plants in our everyday lives, create tasty treats from scratch and explore the natural world. Classes are designed for families with children ages 6-10.

 

All adults attending the workshop must register for the program. Non-participating siblings do not participate in the activities.

 

Price: $12 non-member adult, $10 member adult; $17 non-member child, $15 member child

Family Workshop: Pollination Exploration!

Nature's Art Homeschool Exploration

This self-guided experience encourages families to discover how nature’s colors, shapes and patterns inspire works of art. Explore the beauty of plants, investigate how changing shadows become art and try your hand at using natural materials to create temporary land art.

 

Audience: Recommended for families with children ages 6-10.

 

Program Fee: $12 per child; one adult per child is admitted free of charge. Additional adults and non-participating siblings are $7 each. Non participating-infants (children 2 and under) are free.

 

Registration Instructions: Pre-registration is required. Program registration will not be available onsite. Due to social distancing and group size restrictions you must register all members of your party over the age of 2.

 

The following safety procedures and requirements will be observed for onsite classes during COVID-19:

•   Class sizes are reduced to follow social distancing protocols. Materials used during the program will not be shared between participants and will be disinfected between after each use.

•   Be prepared to wear a mask at all times

•   Bring your own water bottle as water fountains will not be available on site

•   Please practice social distancing – keep at least six feet away from visitors not in your party.

 

If the program is sold out, we encourage you to add your family's name to the waitlist. More program times will be added to accommodate waitlists.

Science Studio: Junior Botanists

What is called by three letters, but actually has a very long name, is in all of us, but is never the same? That's right, DNA! Delve into the world of botany as we study some interesting plant DNA and even perform our very own extraction!

 

Science Studio inspires children to investigate the connections between scientific concepts, the arts and their natural world.  Each Studio program delves into a different discipline of sciences associated with the natural world. Each session provides learners with the opportunity for hands on investigations experiments and more.

 

Ages: This program is designed for children ages 7-10.

 

Price: $14, $12 member; one adult per child is admitted free of charge. Adults are required to stay onsite during the program.

Science Studio: Junior Dendrologists

Dendro-who?? Dendro-what?? Dendrologists! Come with us as we explore a world full of tree-mendously fun facts! You will be surprised to learn what stories a tree can tell if we just stop, look, and listen!

Each session provides learners with the opportunity for hands on investigations experiments and more.

Science Studio: Junior Ethnobotanists

Ethnobotanists help us to understand how peoples from all over the world use plants to create necessities such as food, clothing, and shelter. Come with us to take a closer look at how plants are involved in the process of textile creation from the most basic woven shirt to decorated tapestries.

Wanna be a fun-gi or gal? Come with us as we investigate the wonderful world of mycology! We will explore whether a mushroom is a plant, an animal, or something all of its own!

Science Studio: Junior Paleobotanists

What do you think the plants in Colorado looked like millions of years ago? Join us as we travel back in time as Paleobotanists to study fossils from ancient plants and unlock the secrets of Colorado's past! You'll be surprised to find that some fossils are still living today!

Each session provides learners with the opportunity for hands on investigations experiments and more.

Seedlings: Garden Explorers

Seedlings: Garden Explorers offer young children and their caregivers the opportunity to explore the wonders of nature while developing an understanding and appreciate for plants and their importance. Each program includes songs, stories and a nature exploration in Mordecai Children's Garden. This 30-40 minute program is held onsite at Denver Botanic Gardens’ York Street location. Each week features a different story and exploration.

  

Audience: Families with children ages 18 months to 6 years

  

Program Fee: $10 per toddler/preschooler, $8 per toddler/preschooler member; one adult per child is admitted free of charge. Additional adults and non-participating siblings (children over the age of 6 years) are $5 each. Non participating-Infants (children under the age of 18 months) are free.

  

*Please note, the program fee does not include admission to the main Gardens. Both members and non-members must reserve or purchase general admission tickets to the Gardens if you plan to visit them before or after your program.
