Ooh La Lavender

Saturday, June 24, 2017 - 9:00 AM

Running Time: 5 hours

* This class takes place at Denver Botanic Gardens Chatfield Farms, C-470 and Wadsworth *

Enjoy a Saturday at Chatfield Farms learning all about lavender - how to grow it, how to cook with it, and how to use it for health and wellbeing. It's like three classes in one!

Spend the morning learning from Chatfield Farms’ Horticulturist Angie Jewett about the horticultural side of lavender. She will discuss over a dozen varieties of lavender, primarily those that are hardy for growing in Colorado, including the 14 varieties on site, as well as "exotic" and container varieties. She will demonstrate how to grow lavender from propagation to planting to harvest and will discuss winter care and pests and diseases. Our hope is to inspire homeowners and members of the agricultural community alike to consider growing lavender as a low water, disease and pest resistant option with a wide variety of uses.

Then enjoy a lavender themed lunch with popular cooking instructor and herbalist Susan Evans at the beautiful outdoor kitchen. Following lunch, Susan will teach an afternoon class on all the ways to use lavender and discuss the many health and wellness properties of this easy to grow plant. You’ll make and take home Herbes de Provence seasoning blend, soothing lavender/calendula lip balm, conditioning herbal hair rinse, fragrant lavender sachets to scent drawers or to use in the dryer, and a refreshing facial toner. Recipes, refreshments and take home samples included.
