Dia De Los Muertos

Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead), a Mexican celebration, is a day to celebrate, remember and prepare special foods in honor of those who have departed. On this day in Mexico the streets near the cemeteries are filled with decorations of papel picado, flowers, candy calaveras (skeletons and skulls), and parades. It is believed that the spirit of the dead visit their families on October 31 and leave on November 2.

 

Family Workshop: Chocolate Treats

Explore the chocolate tree and its celebrated history. Follow the journey of a cacao bean and discover how chocolate is made. Join us and create a box of delicious chocolate treats to take home.

Farm Camp at Chatfield: Homes, Hives and Hideouts

June 20-24, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.

July 11-15, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.

 

Explore along the banks of Deer Creek while you learn about its inhabitants and their dwellings. Design and construct your own nature fort and bake homemade biscuits on the wood stove in our historical kitchen.

Girl Scout Exploration Day - Household Elf

April 24, 10am-2pm

Be a green girl scout! Learn about renewable energy, explore how to plant a water smart garden, create reusable items, and plant an air purifying house plant to take home with you.

Scout Exploration Days offer scout troops the opportunity to explore plant-based themes through a variety of hands-on activities and take-home projects. Each Exploration Day offers several activity stations set up throughout the Gardens for groups to explore at their own pace. Pack a picnic lunch and make a day of it!

• $12 per scout (includes admission to the Gardens)

• One adult chaperone (troop leader or parent) for every five scouts is admitted free of charge. Additional adults and siblings pay $7.
