Calavera Ball

Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) is a traditional Mexican celebration that originated over 3,000 years ago and is celebrated on All Saints' Day (November 1) and All Souls Day (November 2). Families come together to remember, honor and celebrate those who have departed. To welcome and commemorate the dead, offerings such as pan de muertos, skulls, candles, incense, yellow marigolds and, most importantly, a photo of the departed soul is placed on the altar.

Denver Botanic Gardens is excited to present a new adult event, Calavera Ball ¡Viva la Muerte! This one-of-a-kind celebration of Mexican culture, art and entertainment includes a "live art" demonstration, artist-created altars, face painting (the face painting line may be long--we encourage you to come already in costume), live performances and music. Special cultural food and beverages will also be included in the ticket price. A live and silent auction will take place to benefit Denver Botanic Gardens. Calavera Ball ¡Viva la Muerte! is designed as an interactive cocktail party and Dia de los Muertos  Catrina  or  Catrin  attire is encouraged. All guests must be 21 years of age and older with ID to attend.

Ghosts in the Gardens

Denver Botanic Gardens dares you to join us after dark! At our annual Ghosts in the Gardens Tours, our guides will lead you through one of three separate ghost tours of your choosing. Each tour guide will tell haunting stories of the Gardens’ one hundred years of history and illustrate points of interest inside and outside what used to be called “The Boneyard”. Each tour will be different and subjects will include actual staff ghost stories, real overnight security staff ghost encounters, and intriguing history (including access to the Waring House Mansion that is not open to the public).
