Cacao Ceremony with Tibetan Singing Bowls and Movement

Drink ceremonial-grade, responsibly sourced cacao from Guatemala and be guided into a ceremonial experience with chocolate! This ceremony will be complimented by Tibetan singing bowls, which have been used for thousands of years to promote healing.

There is a reason that cacao has been used medicinally and spiritually for nearly 3,000 years there is more to this small bean than meets the eye. Native to Central and South America, cacao was used by the Aztecs and Mayans in sacred ceremonies. The cacao tree was one of these ancient peoples' most prized, and chocolate was the drink of choice. Chocolate was used as preventative medicine as well as healing purposes. Historical texts contain an enormous list of medical uses for cacao among them are increased libido, fertility and abetted longevity, as well as improved energy, reduced fever and asthma, heart-opening, and having an overall calming effect. Most cacao that is easily found today has been processed and roasted in such a way that it loses many of its health benefits. Slow down and open your heart; learn about this sacred plant.

 

ALL levels welcome and no experience required.

Please bring a yoga mat, blanket and any props or pillows needed to make yourself comfortable for meditation and a deep relaxation lying on the floor for 45-60 minutes. We recommend wearing comfortable clothing.

Evening Vinyasa Yoga at the Gardens

Looking for an amazing place to practice your yoga skills, how about the beautiful Denver Botanic Gardens?

Vinyasa yoga weaves beautiful movement with challenging postures, and cultivates a sense of peace and calm by the end of each yoga class. Practicing vinyasa yoga on a daily basis can improve posture, flexibility, and endurance. Beyond the physical benefits, yoga helps to bring a sense of clarity to challenging situations in life, reminds us to stay present and focused in an ever-changing environment, and can help us find happiness and contentment in our surroundings.

The postures practiced in this challenging class will promote alignment, flexibility, focus, endurance and help detoxify the body.

Herbal Allies for the Digestive System

There is no denying the connection of optimal digestive function and overall health and vitality. This class covers the basic anatomy and physiology of the GI tract, common digestive complaints and their underlying etiology, and the proper and safe use of botanicals to address these issues. Also included are herbs, food and lifestyle practices to maintain optimal gut health. We sample a variety of delicious herbal preparations from the herbs discussed and each participant go home with a bottle of bitters.

Cat is a holistic practitioner and wellness educator with 19 years of professional experience assisting people to achieve optimal physical and emotional health. Utilizing her skills as a certified herbalist, nutritionist, nature and forest therapy guide, and practitioner of nonviolent communication, she skillfully incorporates a combination of wellness practices into her work with the intention of empowering people to co-create optimal wellness for themselves and their communities. Currently, her focus is facilitating resilience, restoration and deep nourishment for body, mind and spirit through optimal nutrition, plant medicine and nature immersion. She offers a variety of community classes, plant walks and nature connection experiences, and is pursuing a master s degree in ecopsychology in alignment with her commitment to bridge the perceived gap between humans and the natural world for the benefit of both.

 

Japanese Tea Ceremony

 

For centuries, the tea ceremony has been considered the epitome of Japanese life, based on harmony, respect, purity, tranquility and elegant simplicity. Come experience the real thing - a traditional ceremony inside our authentic Japanese Tea House in the Japanese Garden.

Each ceremony is held in the Ella Mullen Weckbaugh Tea House in Shofu-En, the Japanese Garden, at Denver Botanic Gardens.

 

Price: $35, $30 members

Special Instructions: Meet at the tea house at 10 a.m, with a pair of white socks. Jeans, shorts or short skirts are not permitted. Please turn off all cell phones during the ceremony.

 

 

Kundalini Yoga - Single Session

Kundalini yoga focuses on awakening energy and unlocking our inner potential through breathing techniques, movements, stretching, meditation and mantra. This ancient and sacred practice is the oldest form of yoga and is an effective way to recharge and heal the body.

The class, taught by Yogi Bhajan, Ph.D., Master of Kundalini yoga, starts and ends with beautiful and ancient chants which open and calm the heart. A carefully planned sequence of postures, movements and breathing exercises, called a kriya, follows. The techniques stimulate the nervous and immune systems, while improving strength and flexibility. Participants may find a peace of mind and experience benefits including relief from back pain, stress, addiction, depression, insomnia and weight control.

Class is located in Morrison Center which is on the North side of Children’s Garden. The gate for entry is near the corner of 11th and York Street. This location is across the street from the main garden entry.

Morning Hatha Yoga

Morning Hatha Yoga is an all-levels practice, open to everyone! Come unwind through gentle movement, stretching, pranayama and guided meditation. This class holds space to allow the student to gain strength and flexibility at their own pace with an emphasis on safety and alignment.

 

Instructor: Meredith Saver. What began as a physical journey for Meredith quickly grew into a mental and emotional one, too. Her yoga mat has always held space for her to “come home” in her body and in her heart. In this this often-challenging and ever-changing life, yoga serves as her “drishti”- her external point of focus that draws awareness inward. In 2015 Meredith completed 500 hours of yoga teacher training at the Nosara Yoga Institute in Costa Rica with Don and Amba Stapleton. While she is drawn to many forms of yoga, Meredith’s Hatha vinyasa classes are a well-rounded, playful and intelligent blend of movement and meditation. As a teacher it is always her aim to create a safe learning environment so that anyone can show up to step on their mat and find their slice of “coming home.”

Summertime Tea in the Gardens

Denver Botanic Gardens and Denver Tea Room present a beautiful morning of tea tasting and education.

Margo Seymour, tea sommelier, pastry chef, and owner of The Denver Tea Room, will present an example of a traditional afternoon tea service, with a nod to the various cultures that also enjoy the practice of taking tea. Guests will taste several teas, traditional sandwiches, and desserts. Join us in the Solarium or the Annuals Pavilion, with fine china and linens, to learn about the tea process, the difference between "high tea" and "low tea", and how to steep the perfect cup of tea.

October 1, 2018- May 14, 2019 (7:30 - 8:30am): Enter through the gate on the east side of York St and yoga will be in the Morrison Center.

May 15, 2019 - September 30, 2019 (8-9am): Enter through the Pinon Gate on the west side of York Street. In the late summer and fall, class will meet in the UMB Bank Amphitheater. When it is chilly, we will meet in the Orangery (front of the greenhouse complex). There will be signs starting from the after-hours entrance on the north side of the main entry that will direct participants.

October 1, 2019 - Dec 31, 2019 (7:30 - 8:30am): Enter through the gate on the east side of York St and yoga will be in the Morrison Center.

Vinyasa, Violins and Vino

Yoga with a twist. Enjoy vinyasa yoga, live violin music and a picnic! Relax in nature as Blake Burger, certified instructor and Gardens’ horticulturist, leads an hour-long class in the Gardens. Conclude the evening with a bring your own picnic and music performance. BYOB wine and beer is permitted.

Musician: Brittany Erickson is a classical violinist living in Denver, Colorado. She has performed chamber music and orchestral works across the country including with the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, The Curtis Institute, and the Harvard University Orchestra. By day, Brittany is an educator who supports school districts to design innovative new schools, and in her spare time, she can be found enjoying the Colorado mountains or tending her vegetable garden with her partner, John.

Special Instructions: Please bring your own yoga mat, water, picnic and a beverage or adult beverage of your choosing. Please be sure to bring valid ID if consuming alcohol.

This is a rain or shine event, both the yoga class and picnic will be held under the clear tent and lights of the amphitheater. Class will begin promptly at 6:30pm, so please arrive early enough to get settled in.
