Literature of the Land: Spring 2016 Book Club

The book club is hosted by the Helen Fowler Library. This spring series examines birds in history, fiction and the modern era and how it relates to topics ranging from natural history to avian intelligence to the idea of home.

We’ll read 3 books over 3 months.

The March book is Noah Strycker’s "The Thing with Feathers: The Surprising Lives of Birds and What They Reveal About Being Human," an entertaining look at birds and the surprising world they inhabit.

In April, the book is "Snapper" by Brian Kimberling. This wry, witty set of interconnected short stories explores the Indiana backwater with young ornithologist Nathan, who makes a meager living observing the effect of climate change on the region’s songbirds.

In May, the book looks at birds in the broader context of migratory animals with "The Homing Instinct" by Bernd Heinrich.

Registration is mandatory as attendance will be limited in number to allow for interactive discussion in a friendly group setting. The cost is $5 per session, $15 for all three sessions.

Each session has individual registration, please select all three date options with seperate registration if you would like to attend the entire series.

Dates:

March 23 or 24

April 20 or 21

May 18 or 19

$5 per session.
