Literature of the Land: Spring 2017 Book Club

Join us for the spring 2017 session of Literature of the Land, a book club series hosted by the Helen Fowler Library.

We’ll read 3 books over 3 months, focusing on a specific topic of interest. This spring we’ll explore the way we see the natural world – in memoir, essays, and biography - and how it influences our views on art, nature, and environmentalism.

In March, we’ll start with The Invention of Nature: Alexander von Humboldt’s New World by Andrea Wulf.

In April, we’ll focus on renowned writer Mary Oliver and her lovely new collection of essays in Upstream.

In May, we’ll wrap up with Hope Jahren’s Lab Girl, a fun memoir detailing a modern scientist studying trees, flowers, seeds, and soil.

Registration is mandatory as attendance will be limited in number to allow for interactive discussion in a friendly group setting. The cost is $5 per session, $15 for all three sessions.

Each session has individual registration, please select all three date options with seperate registration if you would like to attend the entire series.
