Drawing on Tradition: Anthony Tyznik and Spring Flowering Native Shrubs and Trees

• Tue., Apr. 29, May 6, 13, 20, 27, 9 a.m. – Noon

Instructor: Susan DiMarchi

Pen and ink skills will be taken to the next level with large scale renderings of Colorado’s spring flowering native trees or shrubs. Students will follow the style of Anthony Tyznik, who was a landscape architect at Illinois’ Morton Arboretum for 40 years and also illustrated the Morton Arboretum Quarterly between 1965 and 1979. His tree illustrations included the mature and immature form of trees along with exceptional details. A Gardens’ expert will lead students on a specialist tour to select a subject for careful study. Learn how to include a human or animal for scale and also capture the details of the specimen. The combination of these two images will tell the whole story. Working in quill and ink, students will learn to work in different scales and supersize drawings onto larger paper to showcase the entire theme. Fee: $225 member, $280 non-member. Prerequisites: Pencil I, Expressive Ink, Pen and Ink II.
