Research & Conservation Behind the Scenes Tour

Do you know the Gardens are a highly active scientific institution? Have you ever heard of the many conservation projects we are involved with?

The Gardens Research and Conservation Department - consisting of 11 staff members of which four PhDs and six Masters of Science - is hosting an open house to introduce our guests to the important work they lead. The open house includes a guided tour of our herbarium of fungi, herbarium of vascular plants and the conservation genetics laboratory.

Whether you are new to the Gardens or a seasoned member, you will enjoy this personable interaction with our staff. This is a great opportunity to see many behind-the-scenes areas of the Gardens that are usually closed to the public.

  • Open house runs from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.
  • Tour times are: 10 a.m., 11:30 a.m. & 1 p.m.
  • Tours are one hour long
  • Tours are included in your general admission to the Gardens.
  • We encourage you to pre-register as tours fill up fast
  • Children are the responsibility of their parents at all times
  • Tour meeting point is in Gates Garden Court located on the main floor of the Boettcher Memorial Building.
  • The greenhouses are not part of the tour.
